Preventing KRL Accident in JABODETABEK

On may 20 in a sunny morning 3 years ago. A bunch of people near pondok cina station was shouting each other warned someone who was crossing railway. A last year student hit by KRL. She was a good student, smart and she was waiting for her graduation.

She was, however, running without looking around, and she was using a headset. The 22 years old student was returning from a computer rent across campus in Depok, and then she was hit by KRL  with severe injuries. This last year student is my senior in campus. Nowdays, she left a memory and wishes in campus, a wishes that she will graduate from university as bachelor degree.

Unfortunately, tragic KRL accident involving pedestrian are much too common in all part of the Jabodetabek. After researching the subject  for my speech, I have come to conclusion as the ministry of transportation. That the best way to prevent such accident is to build underpass.

I know that solution will be so expensive and perhaps will cause severe traffic and inhibit your dialy activites, but I ask you to listen with an open mind while we discuss some of the problems associated with pedestrian victims, the major causes of the problems, and a plan that will help solve the problem.

No  matter how one looks at the evidence, it all leads to one fact. there are too many KRL accident, injuries, and death involving pedestrian. According to the police data 2012 of Depok resort. Accident cause by crossing the railway increase 40% from preceeding year. Last year alone 30 people were killed in KRL accident involving pedestrian in Depok, almost exactly the number of one class student in my campus.

Evidence also show that train accident throughout Indonesia was dominated at the train crossing. According to Jakarta Transportation Board, train crossing have the highest percentage of accident place in Indonesia, that is 60%.

Now that we've seen the extent of the problem, we can explore its causes one of the causes is earphone. Remember my senior accident at the beginning of my speech? there was an earphone on her  neck after the accident. Due to a lot of accident involving earphone, head of public relation of KAI , area operation 1, Mateta Rizalulhaq, asked that do not use an earphone or headset near the railway because you will not hear a warning from KRL and people around you.

A second causes is revealed by distraction research. We all know what it is like when addicted with smartphone, BBM chat pingging, notification of social media appearing, user smiling and have a good time. The problem is all these factors create distraction.  A new study, published online in the journal Injury Prevention, warns that distracted walking is quickly becoming jus as much of a hazard as distracted driving. The reasearchers found that texting while crossing the street or railway was the riskiest activity, with pedestrians four time more likely to ignore oncoming traffic and disobey traffic signal while checking their devices. The study also found that texters took much longer to cross a street than those who do not text while doing the same task.

A third causes is hurrying factor, in 2007 Transport Safety Victoria conduct a study into pedestrian behaviour at level crossings. Findings show 18-25 year olds are most likely to cross the tracks when a train is coming, out of the age groups surveyed. and the crossings also most likely to be influenced by factors such as hurrying.

So the extent of the problem is clear, and so is causes, what steps can we take to help bring about a solution?

First, building underpass for KRL in Jabodetabek. Besides avoid pedestrian, it also will reduce the traffic near doorstop or crossings

Second, Law policy to restrict using smartphone or earphone  near railway and street. If one is using it, then they will be punished. Hence, there must be a responsible officer to arrest people who violate the policy and will standby  at certain points in crossings

Third, set up crossing sign, increase doorstop crossing those who haven't and crossing just permitted in legal railway crossings

Now I know all of this might sound harsh and inconvenient, but the evidence is clear that it would save  a significant numbers of lifes. Everyone in this room has felt to be graduated student, But my senior in campus still left a wishes, can you imagine if you are a parent of this last year student?

There is no way to solve all the problems we encounter on the railway, but we can do something to help save  the lifes of people and make the railway safer for all of us. As I said earlier, this might sound harsh or inconvenient. But I know my senior in campus would gladly trade both for the chance to life again

Dare To Be Different ( Berani Tampil Beda )

A reporter was walking around in a very fancy store complex. When he's walking around the stores, he saw an old woman who was begging at the store complex. Because of his curiousity and just for fun, he followed the beggar. He wished there were something unique to write and take photos of her. And he began to pay attention in every action she did. The beggar was about to go to any stores for begging. Some people who pity on her, gave her money. The rest drove her away. Until at last, she stopped at a boutiqe where the boutiqe was displaying some nice clothes and it made the old woman interested in seeing.

Then, the old woman went into boutiqe. The reporter thought that she will beg to boutique assistant, but it turned out to be wrong. The beggar just look around for a moment, then one of waiters of the store came over to the beggar. "well, I think she will be expelled by the waiter" said the reporter. Then "excuse me mom, can I help you?" the waiter ask politely. "hmmm, I just wanted to see it anyway" the old woman answered. The reporter was very suprised because the waiter didnt expelled the beggar. And it made reporter so interested in their activities, he want to know what will happen next.

The beggar saw on one of the nice clothes, and she stared it long enough. and the old woman asked "Could I try this cloth? . While smiling the waiter answered " ya, the changing room over there". And the waiter took a dress and gave it to the old woman. The face of happy seem on the beggar, but the face of suprised seem on the reporter moreover when the beggar tried some dress and the waiter allow it. I think it's normal for the reporter expression because she was a very ragged and bad smell beggar. And it is imposible for her to purchase the dress. The the beggar left the boutiqe with a happy face.

Then the reporter wrote an article about his experience and published on one of the well-known newspaper. Because of the reporter article, the boutiqe become  famous in a short time. Not only that, sales of the boutiqe rose to 90%. That is because the reader is so impressed with the service of the waiter when she served the beggar.

One of the things that make our dream come true is we have to do something differently than others. To do that we have to change our thought which probably same with others. We must dare to be different in a different way. And this is what I will tell you tonight in my speech.

From my story, what happen if the boutiqe waiter behave as same as others waiters at those complex? of course the boutique waiter will expelled the beggar and didnt permit the beggar to try some expensive dresses.

The boutique waiter remove perspective which people usually used, she uses a different way which contradict with others. She didnt afraid that the employer would scold her for doing so, the waiter did the task properly, she served people who came regardless of their status without wondered if buyers really want to buy or just want to look around. For her customer is a king, so he had to serve customer as good as possible.

As a result people are becoming interested in its service and make a lot of people come to the boutiqe and buy clothes there. We should imitate the waiter thought to be different, indeed there is a risk that we will get  to be different and it could be that we might be ridiculed by others because our acts look strange or even are scolded by others. But as long as our perspective and thingking in accordance with all applicable rule, move on, go ahead and do not give up.

Others figures who dare to be different:
Jokowi, he dare to be different by his leadership style -> modestly, serve and closed to the people.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO Facebook, he dare to be differnt by intellect ways -> richest young man.

Steve Jobs, CEO Apple, with his company slogan "Think Different", successfully deliver his company in briliant inovation.

Lady gaga, with her appearance,  and I think personally her appearance is strange, successfully deliver her to be the famous singer with 5 grammy award in her hand

Persuasive Speech: Paper Bags or Plastic Bags ?

Both plastic bags and paper bags are usefull for humankind in daily activities. After shopping at mall, buying stuffs in minimarket, buying foods on the roadsides and so on. So, what a huge our needs for plastic and paper. However, the uses of them have emerged a negative impact.

Plastic
Plastic is made of polyethene, a thermoplastic material which is more than 60 million tons of this material is produced worldwide every year. Then, producing 1 tons of plastic requires 11 barrels of crude oil. According to the research, in one year 1 trilion plastic bags are used worldwide. each person uses about 170  plastic bags each year. It means in every single minute, 2 million plastic bags discarded and become waste. This plastic also has a strong texture and are not easily degraded by soil microorganisms, therefore to decompose, it needs 500-1000 years. Another problems is if plastic waste scattered on the ground it would disturb soil fertility , inhabit water infiltration so it will cause flood.

why dont we try to recycle a plastic bags?
well, only 1% of plastic bags can be recycle, especially it's because the difficulty of choosing plastic used. And recycle costs is not comparable with selling price of recycle product, therefore most of plastic bags then remain as a waste.

And how about papers?

To reduce the negative impact of using plastic bags for example, in developed countries the use of plastic shopping bags began to be restricted and replaced with paper bags. But, it's not a solution! papers come from trees, meanwhile the function of trees to decompose carbon dioxide (CO2). faster trees are cut to produce papers, faster the problem of greenhouse effect which triger global warming. And to produce papers, it requires 2 tons to 3.5 tons of trees to make 1 tons of paper.

So, which one should we choose? plastic bags or paper bags? or not both?

The most important is:
Minimize the use of plastic and paper bags
Using bio-degradable plastic bags: maizena (degrdable in 6 months)
Self awareness, prefer using our bags than plastic or papers

Phishing an Effective Fraud in Electronic Communication

Yap yap bloggers the title above will be presented for Toastmaster in Lippo Karawaci, well actually I live here because I've got a new job here after I graduated from University of Indonesia, Depok. Hoooah miss so muach UI Depok. Here is my speech, perhaps you guys enjoy it!

Good evening fellow Toastmaster Club, today is my eight speech of my project and I will deliver a speech titled "Phishing an Effective Fraud in Electronic Communication". After hearing my speech today all of you guys here will be carefull with Phishing. Really this kind of activity will harm your privacy. Why?

Let me give an explanation about what is the meaning of phishing. Phishing is attempting to acquire information such as usernames, passwords and credit card detail by masquerading as a truthworthy entity in an electronic communication. The term of phishing comes from the word " fishing"  which means fishing financial information and user's password.

And then how the phisher deal with kind of activity?
1. Link Manipulation
Well, this activity is the most method of phisher to phishing. The phisher make a link and it will be directed to a real website whereas this website is fake. The phisher will design the website as closesly as possible with real website. For example facebook, color, layout, and everything will be same except the url. So, you have to watch the url before you log in in facebook. it is facebook.com or not.

2. Phone Phishing
Not all phishing attacks require fake website. A message that claimed to be form the bank told users to dial  a phone number regarding problems with their bank accounts. Once the phone number(owned by phisher and provide by voice over IP service) was dialed, prompt told users to enter their account numbers and PIN. Or sometimes uses fake caller ID data to give the appearance that calls come from trusted organization.

Conclusion
Well, actually there are lot of kind of Phishing, none of them will benefit you. So be carefull. Technology growth rapidly but threat caused by technology will be increased. Once again be carefull with your privacy on the internet.

--- to be continued you guys-----
